Keep in mind that the striker posititon is the position that provides most of the goals in a soccer match. So here are the nominees. Nominee1- Thierry Henry (France and Barcelona) is probably the most weel-known striker in the world. His transfer from Arsenal to Barca earlier this summer was very highly publicized. Last season, he captained the Gunners to a fourth place finish in the EPL. He also help France finish as World Cup runner-ups. He scored three goals in the 2006 World Cup. Henry uses his great size and speed to put well-paced shots by the opposing team's goalkeeper. Now it looks like he could be on the brink of history with Barca. Only time will tell how good he really is. Nominee2- Didier Drogba (Cote d' Ivoire {Ivory Coast} and Chelsea) finished second in the English Premier League's Player of the Year Award. He showed in the EPL this past season that he can put the ball in the net at any time. He uses his strong upper body and powerful strikes to elude opposing goalkeepers. Drogba helped his native country last year in the World Cup when they nearly defeated the Netherlands. They would lose by a goal, but he did score once. He also led Chelsea to a second-place finish in the EPL. This season should tell us how good he really is, because if Shevchenko has a good season, the sky is the limit for how many goals he could score. Nominee3- Miroslav Klose (Germany and Bayern Munich) won the Golden Boot Award at the 2006 World Cup by scoring 5 goals. He led his club team, Werder Bremen to the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Cup this past year. Klose has shown great goal-scoring saavy when on the face of the goal. He uses quickness and smarts to get in the right posititon and beat the goalkeeper. In the 2005-2006, he scored 25 goals, the highest that season, and registered 16 assists in just 26 games in the Bundesliga. He also helped Germany to a third-place finish in the FIFA World Cup 2006. In his first game with Munich earlier this summer, he scored. He and his play are true class. Nominee4- Luca Toni (Italy and Bayern Munich) helped his club team, Fiorentina to a spot in the UEFA Cup next season by scoring 16 goals in an injury-shortened season. Two seasons ago, he won the European Golden Boot Award with 31 goals. Toni scored two goals at last year's FIFA World Cup against Ukraine in thw quarter-finals. Toni also scored a goal in his Bayern Munich debut. That's my opinion .. they score a lot of goal .. Bayern Munchen FC huhu .. |
